Telecare and AI powered care (examples of solutions available in Czech Republic)

In September 2023, the first round of a market review focusing on telecare and the use of artificial intelligence in care was carried out in the Czech Republic. The second round followed in March 2025, updating and expanding the list of relevant solutions. Several technologies already successfully implemented in practice were identified, along with new innovations with the potential to improve the quality and accessibility of care.

Examples include:
  1. MEDDI app – telemedicine application with AI-powered basic triage;
  2. eHealth – Aireen® – AI-based detection of diabetic retinopathy using fundus imaging;
  3. Emergency care – telecare emergency response service;
  4. HelpLivi – emergency system for social services;
  5. Virtual reality – dementia – VR training to improve understanding of dementia;
  6. VR ICU® – virtual reality training for healthcare professionals;
  7. Virtual reality – communication in difficult situations – AI-powered VR conflict management training.

MEDDI app

Telemedicine application enabling remote communication between patients and doctors. Artificial intelligence is used for basic patient triage based on the severity of their condition and for monitoring epidemiological situations. AI can detect impending health problems faster than a human, but it is still recommended to use it with caution, as it cannot fully replace doctors yet.

eHealth – Aireen®

AI-based technology for non-invasive diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy. Using a fundus camera, it scans the retina, and AI evaluates pathological changes in blood vessels and the retina. The examination takes only a few seconds and helps to detect ocular complications associated with diabetes at an early stage.

Telecare solution for urgent care, enabling fast connection with an emergency call centre. The system provides continuous support for seniors and people with health limitations.

Virtual reality – dementia

An interactive educational tool offered by the Association of Social Services Providers Czech Republic, based on virtual reality, helps caregivers and healthcare professionals better understand the experience of people with dementia and improve the quality of care.

VR ICU® – training for healthcare professionals

Virtual reality training for healthcare workers focused on intensive care and crisis situations. It allows practising from routine instrument setup to complex patient care scenarios in a safe environment.

Virtual reality – communication in difficult situations

Communication and conflict management training offered by the Association of Social Services Providers Czech Republic combining virtual reality and artificial intelligence. AI analyses the participant’s responses and generates realistic counter-reactions. This allows practising de-escalation techniques and effective communication strategies in simulated conflict situations.
